Help Save Free Tax Preparation for Low-Moderate Income Families in Frederick County
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a free tax program that has brought back MILLIONS of hard earned dollars over 600 low to moderate income households in Frederick County, saving them THOUSANDS in tax prep service fees.
They are hardworking families who can’t afford a basic cost of living. United Way of Frederick County’s ALICE Report shows that 39% of Frederick County households are ALICE and struggle to afford basic needs. Our mission is to prop up ALICE families by supporting important programs like VITA.
But VITA is more than just free tax preparation that saves ALICE households thousands in tax preparation fees. It is an entryway into long-term financial stability through the Prosperity Center.
As a path to home-ownership, the Prosperity Center prepares clients with the knowledge and tools they need to purchase and own a home. The Prosperity Center is a proven system that starts with VITA, but then leads to credit counseling, budgeting coaching and matched savings.
95% of Prosperity Center “graduates” have been single mothers; 100% have been successful homeowners! Heather is the perfect example of what VITA means to our Community!
